Due to the size of the sheets and to keep costs down, you will receive pieces that are cut cross grained. If you want all sheets to not have cross grain, please reach out to us for a price prior to purchasing.
Our B/BB Baltic Birch is 2-sided plywood with veneer core. You are guaranteed that each piece will be clear on one side and the other side may contain 1-2 plugs (commonly called "footballs"). When the plywood is manufactured, the location of a tree branch will form a knot-like spot in the wood that is prone to falling out. Rather than leaving a hole in the plywood, the manufacturer places a small plug in its place. The plug is constructed of Baltic Birch and is matched as closely as possible to the rest of the board. Some plugs are almost unnoticeable. If you paint your pieces or glue them to another surface, these plugs are not a problem. Why Baltic Birch vs Domestic Birch? Baltic Birch’s core is unlike domestic plywood. The layers of inner plies are solid birch veneer, cross-banded, and laminated with strong adhesive.
